Odorgard & Hydecat

Odorgard™ - Under a license agreement with Johnson Matthey Catalysts, Hygrade offer the Odorgard™ single stage, catalytic, wet chemical scrubbing system to effectively remove malodours associated with Waste Water Treatment Works and similar plants.

The catalytic system allows efficient scrubbing of a wide range of odourous compounds and low-level VOC's in a single stage with no by-production of chlorinated organics, but highly efficient use of the chemicals (Sodium Hypochlorite).

Because the Odorgard™ process utilises traditional wet chemical scrubbing equipment and control systems, it can be effectively be retrofitted to existing scrubbing systems to add a new dimension to high efficiency scrubbing.

Hydecat™ - Under a new license agreement Hygrade offer the Hydecat™ process. This is a catalytic method of removing Sodium Hypochlorite from chlorinated streams, using a nickle based catalyst in a modular fixed bed reactor.

Chlorine makes a vital contribution to the health and safety of modern everyday life, as a disinfectant and in the manufacture of plastics, pharmaceuticals and many essential products. However there is increasing pressure to reduce the level of chlorine and chlorinated organic species released to the environment because of the potential effect on the eco-cycle.

As well as being a biocide, Hypochlorite (bleach) possesses two additional major problems. If the stream becomes acidic, chlorine is released and if it contains organics, organo-chlorides can be formed. Both can occur at the plant before discharge or following release to a water course or sewer. It is therefore essential to clean up the stream containing Hypochlorite.

The Hydecat™ catalyst decomposes Hypochlorite into brine and oxygen

2 NaOCl + CAT — 2 NaOl + O2

The Key benefit of the Hydecat™ process is that it economically produces clean aqueous effluent to meet new environmental standards for Hypochlorite discharge. It eliminates ongoing costs for Hypochlorite destruction, requires no large continuing purchases of reducing agents or metal salts and can significantly cut the costs associated with effluent handling and removal.
